Energy Transition in the Southern African Mining Sector
This article analyses a sample of the largest mines by production output in the Southern African (SAF) region to understand energy transition initiatives being taken in this sector to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Information was sourced from a mix of news articles, announcements and companies’ published reports. It is encouraging to see that all of the reports analysed show a deep awareness of climate change and that action needs to be taken.
Extractive industries companies are on different stages of their decarbonisation journeys, with some are just starting and some having already made investments in green energy and seeing the impacts of those investments.
