CITAC was proud to play a significant role in the fifth ARDA Storage/Distribution & Jet Fuel Forum held in Addis Ababa in September 2024, where discussions focused on the evolving energy landscape in Africa, particularly within the aviation fuel sector and broader energy infrastructure.

On 24th September 2024, Elitsa Georgieva, CITAC Executive Director, moderated a panel on the Evolution of the International Energy Context and Its Impact on African Markets, guiding an in-depth discussion with leading experts, including Dimitri Terentiev, Argus, and Khalid Yousafzai, S&P Global, on how the global energy landscape is influencing African markets.

In addition to moderating, Elitsa delivered a compelling presentation on Addressing Africa’s Infrastructure Gap in the Face of Fast-Rising Energy Demand. Her presentation highlighted the pressing need for infrastructure development to meet Africa’s growing energy needs and proposed strategies to bridge the infrastructure gap, ensuring a more efficient and sustainable energy future for the continent.

On 25th September 2024, during the session Jet Fuel Challenges: Current Situation & Outlook for Africa, James McCullagh, CITAC Executive Director joined Saidou Alpha Wone and Tanya Stepanova from S&P Global to discuss the current challenges and offer forward-looking insights into the future of jet fuel in Africa.

In the session Sustainable Jet Fuel Initiatives, James, alongside other industry experts, including Christopher Rokoni from UNOC, Antoine Salomon from Total Energies, Khaled Seoud from Soudotec, and Alexandra Calvo from IATA, explored strategies for improving efficiency in African downstream operations and advancing sustainable fuel initiatives.

James expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to engage with fellow industry leaders and extended special thanks to Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, and Tadesse Tilahun, CEO of NOC Ethiopia, for their hospitality and insightful contributions.

Both James and Elitsa’s contributions to these events demonstrated CITAC’s commitment to supporting Africa’s energy transformation, addressing both the immediate challenges and long-term opportunities for sustainable growth in the region’s energy markets.
