28th-31st October 2024, Lagos, Nigeria
At this year’s OTL Africa Downstream Week in Lagos, industry leaders discussed the evolving dynamics of West Africa’s refining sector. Moderated by CITAC’s Jeremy Parker, the panel “Refining Operations and Petroleum Value-Chain Dynamics – West African Myths and Realities” covered several key themes:
- Refining’s Local Impact: Refining adds significant value to local economies, creating skilled jobs and enhancing energy security, but government support is always needed.
- Local Crude Processing: Experiences from companies like Waltersmith, CORAN and ARDA showcased successes and challenges in adapting to changing regulations and regional crude supplies.
- Community Engagement & Logistics: Effective infrastructure and local support are essential for refining project success, as participants emphasised the need for transparent community partnerships.
These insights highlight both the potential and complexity of West Africa’s refining future.
Thank you to all the panellists for their valuable insights and participation.
